The Jay Z/Solange video has made the internet explode

Yesterday, a video of what appeared to be Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z was released. The internet reacted predictably.

YESTERDAY TMZ RELEASED a video that they claim shows Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z in an elevator after the Met Gala last week.

As of yet, there has been no comment from Solange’s rep on the altercation.

However the Standard Hotel in New York, which held the after party, has since released a statement to E! News about the “security breach”:

We are shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system and the confidentiality that we count on providing our guests.
We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity.

The release of the video conjured up a veritable Twitter storm of speculation and, of course, jokes about the incident.

Here’s a graph showing how tweets mentioning Solange jumped from virtually nothing to almost 60,000 tweets in the last day:

And Twitter did go into meltdown over the video, which inspired the hashtag #WhatJayZSaidToSolange:

There were lots of people claiming it had something to do with the Illuminati:

And a LOT of people making jokes like this one:

We’ll probably never find out what happened that night. But thank you, Twitter, for trying. Thank you.
